Come and participate in the 2010 Cultural Route Walk

In 2010 for the first time ever, there will be a great march across Europe along pilgrim routes organised by the French Federation of the Associations of the Ways of Saint Jacques de Compostelle.  The theme is “Pilgrims showing solidarity with the Earth and man”.

This year is for Santiago, a Holy Year and to mark it pilgrimages are being organised along the many St James’ routes as well as the Via Francigena, the destination being Santiago.  Each pilgrim group will carry a Bourdon (pilgrim staff) and a ‘Golden Book’ (for participants and those they encounter to write reflections on the pilgrimage.  Groups will converge at different points along the way, finally reaching Santiago in September.

In the beginning of May, a group will set off from Rome along the Via Francigena.  Likewise, a group will leave Canterbury to meet them in Besancon.  From there they will turn towards Santiago.

The start from Canterbury, going to Dover, has been fixed for Friday 28th May and is being co-ordinated by the Confraternity of Pilgrims to Rome.  The pilgrim staff will be passed to the French Association in Calais, on Saturday 29th, time and place to be decided.

Walkers can continue the route in France as long/far as they want and accompany our pilgrim walkers, who will be carrying the "golden book" (i.e. visitors book) and pilgrim relay staff.  Accommodation details to be decided.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to be part of an historic event - the first of its kind!

If you are interested, please click here to let our Secretary know as she needs to be aware of likely numbers.

We look forward to seeing you

Walk along the Via Appia - April 2010
A walk along the Via Appia, an old road that dates back to the 4th century BC. Is again being organised by Alberto Alberti.  Unlike previous years, this walk will be in two parts, starting at Benevento, further south than is usual.  The walk ends in Rome.

Alberto’s walks are always eventful and highly individual.  He has been working for many years to revive (and where necessary re-invent!) the route used by Apostles, Emperors, Saints, Popes and pilgrims.  You will have the opportunity to visit places, and take part in activities that would not otherwise be possible., for example last year it visited two schools and participants were treated to a charming music performance by the schoolchildren.  Contact Alberto directly, click here to download further details.
CPR Saints’ Way Walk in Cornwall
For the first time, the Confraternity of Pilgrims to Rome is organising a several day walk.  We will walk the whole of the Saints’ Way which runs from the north coast of Cornwall to the south coast.  En route we will find a number of shrines, standing stones holy wells and churches as well as stunning scenery.

The walk will be over three days and take place either around 2nd week of April or 2nd week of May.  Numbers will be very limited.  Click here  to email the Webmaster if you are interested in finding out more.
