If you speak French or Italian you will find life easy. If not do not despair.  A little 'transactional' French and Italian will enable you to survive.  People are helpful!  Bring a small dictionary that includes a small section on grammar and if you need to ask a complicated question, write it down so if the person does not understand your pronounciation, you can show it to them.  It will also allow them to show you a word in the dictionary if you don't understand them!

Having said that please see the advice given under ‘Accommodation’ regarding Parish Accommodation - you will need to be able to conduct phone conversations - or persuade someone to do it for you!
