Pilgrim Record
The Pilgrim Record is a certificate of bona fide pilgrim status, and may be required for access to the refugios/monasteries. It is stamped at the beginning, and daily at churches, town halls, bars etc along the way. Pilgrim records are made available only to walkers, cyclists, and pilgrims on horseback. They can be obtained from us (see Pilgrim Credential (AKA Pilgrim Record, Pilgrim Passport)

Post Ahead
In France (where the service is Poste Restante), and Italy (where it is called Fermoposta) it is possible to post maps/equipement etc ahead to be collected later.  This is a very useful service especially if you are undertaking a long pilgrimage.  With careful planning you can use the packaging of the collected articles to repackage items to be sent home.  The CSJ website has a list of addresses in France & Spain mainly those found on the various routes to Santiago.  However they may be of interest to anyone wishing to walk from Rome to Santiago (or vice verse).  Click on CSJ-Intouch.
Below are addresses that may be of use on Via Francigena.  Remember to address it with ‘Surname’ first.  You will need  to show your passport when collecting the post.

Note:  We have been told that in France they only keep items for 15 days before returning them to the sender and there is also the possibility that you will be charged for collection (although fortunately it has not been this author’s experience).
