Route

Mostly small roads and tracks with farm tracks and cross country walking along designated paths linking as many of the towns and villages on Sigeric's route as possible. But there are still some sections of busy main roads. The terrain itself is not strenuous and even the climb to the top of the St. Bernard Pass (at 2473m) is gradual and spread over 3 or 4 stages.

Rucksacks

Choose a small rucksack.  The bigger the rucksack, the heavier it will be and more you will pack.  Some people can get away with only a 20L capacity.  One of our members had a 35L sack and managed to carry a tent, cookpot, small gas stove, sleepingbag, sleepingmat as well as fleece, rainproof jacket & trousers, sandals for 'after-walk' wear & necessary spare trousers etc!  Also the smaller the sack, the lighter it will be.  Make sure the rucksack fits comfortably.  Those with foam padding on either side of the spine are good.
